I. Do Now

III. Continue Research
I. Do Now: Recently, we have been covering the topic of immigration reform. Some politicians from different ideologies (conservative and liberal) have come up with a solution that can maybe help President Obama pass immigration reform to help undocumented immigrants get citizenship.
The proposals are:
1. Undocumented immigrants must admit that they broke the law by coming to this country illegally.
2. Undocumented immigrants must pay a fine ($1000 - $5000) for breaking the law.
3. Undocumented immigrants must agree to have their background checked.
4. Undocumented immigrants must go back to their home countries and wait to get clear and then they can have citizenship.
Your response:
What are the pros and cons to these proposals? Do you agree with them? Why or why not?
Come up with a solution to fix immigration reform so that undocumented immigrants can become citizens while ensuring the U.S. economy does not fall behind.
II. Finish typing your poems - You will type your poems that you have been working with Myron. Your finished poems must be given to Mr. Amador by today - NO EXCEPTIONS! Your typed poems are worth 20 points. Mr. Amador must collect your poems before you leave class. You can also email your poem to him to omar.amador.79@gmail.com
III. Continue your research for the timeline. Some of you are using other timelines from different websites. Remember that the events on the timeline must include how ideology effected the country you are researching up until recent history. If you pick a timeline from 1300 - 1880, then your timeline will not be current and you will receive a low grade.
In my opinion I think this is to much what their asking for. But I understand what they're trying to do to be fair to get their citizenship. I have family who are struggling to get their papers and become a U.S citizen and it's difficult to go through. But the money they want is too much. They should know a lot of "immigrants" don't have the money, so should at least make it a wage that people can afford.
ReplyDeleteWell that sounds like a real nice proposition for those making the law, because they pay the government 1000-2000 dollars and they get deported. So basically their proposal is equivalent too a diseased dog getting ran over by a drunk driver driving a toyota. If they got rid of the
ReplyDeletepart where they have to go back and wait who knows how long than it wouldn't be so bad.
I understand where the country is coming from a lot of immigrants have been coming into the states lately but still they have reasons of coming here to start fresh. A background check is good though but the other proposals isn't necessary . fining them and then deporting them back. They just went through a whole lot to get here and there being sent back like that. This isn't right we need to pass the immigration inform on. Why because they're here to start fresh while the U.S goes into different countries and terrorize things. They mean to do no harm so pass it on thats my opinion.
ReplyDeletei think is somewhat fair is betr than no proposal at al and i think one of the proposals for a backround check is good enough for the imigrants to get a chance at bein a citizen feel me.
ReplyDeleteA proposal i would give is making them pay a fee but less than what theyre offering because thats to much or giving them a chance to pay it off by geting a job like a debt
I understand the reasoning for 1 and 3, but paying a fine that large, and sending them back to their country to wait (who knows how long) is unfair. If they are already making a life and living here, why mess that up? let them wait to get approved for citizenship, and if they dont get approved (because they did something illegal or whatever) then yeah I guess they have to go back home. It's a tough balance, but I feel like they are going to try and make it even harder for immigrants to get citizenship. it's not fair.
ReplyDeleteMy opinion is that the government has the right to ask for the background check and ask for a fine because i mean they are here illegally and if they do that they would get citizenships. I don't agree for them to go back to their countries because some people have been here since they were little and its not their fault that their parents brought them here. They probably don't have family over there and they are so use to being here that they don't know how life is over there. I think they should give the citizenships to students that have been here their whole life. We should try to do the right thing and not be unfair with people.
ReplyDeleteI think in a way it is a good proposal because they have a chance to come back but at the same time the chance isnt that big. Also most of them have been in this country since they where babies and living in America is all they know so i dont feel it's fare to send them back to a place they dont even know.
ReplyDeleteHEL YEA I AGREE THATS SEEMS TO BE THE BEST WAY TO HANDLE THIS SITUATION WIT THESE IMMIGRANTS...IF I WAS AN IMMIGRANT I WOODNT TRIP OFF OF IT
ReplyDeletei understand that these people are trying to make everything fair, but they should also take in mind that immigrants don't have all of that money. they want to come to the U.S for a reason, to have a better life and maybe for their kids to have a better life then they had.
ReplyDeleteI DNT AGREE WIT THAT FINE THEY HAVE TO PAY...THATS SUM REAL BULLSHIT...HOW YUH GON MAKE AH IMMIGRANT PAY THAT MUCH MONEY??...THEY SUM IMMIGRANTS THEY AINT THAT RICH...UNLESS THEY TONY MONTANNA OR SUM SHIT
ReplyDeleteI dont agree cause they might try and play you . You got to do all shit and pay racks. I think most immigrants dont even be trIpin off stuff like that. The government shouldnt even trip off this cause we spendin dough thus makin jobs YAAMZAYIN.
